2022 SPECIAL LENTEN SERIES: “In View of God’s Mercy”
Lent is a season when we take a look at our lives in view of God’s mercy toward us in the sacrifice of his Son for us on the cross. We, in turn, are called by God, especially during this time of repentance and reflection, to be living sacrifices for him, displaying our devotion to him in word and deed. Jesus helps us to see the richness of God’s mercy in his life, death and resurrection. The services in this worship series for Lent by theology professor David Peter focus our eyes of faith on the meaning behind God’s mercy made manifest in Christ.

5/22/2022: Brian and Victoria Behm (Kim and Farid Yunez' daughter & son-in-law) have crafted a Lenten Devotional based on paintings Brian did throughout Lent last year with prayers written by Victoria. You can learn more about the project at their website, http://www.briancbehm.com/.  Their Kickstarter was fully funded, and the first run of books are being printed now. Sign-up for their newsleter on the website if you are interested in future copies of the book.

Pentecost:

2023 - Pentecost - Sermon Series: Journeying with Jesus & the Disciples
Matthew 14 – 16
The appointed Gospel lessons covering most of three chapters in Matthew, invite us to be taught by Jesus as we travel with Him and the disciples. In Jesus’ hands, a measly five loaves and two fishes feed 5,000 with twelve baskets of leftovers. How are we, small as we think we are, blessed by the Lord and able to serve in His name in extraordinary ways? Even when we turn away from Jesus, as Peter did while walking on wild waves, Jesus always reaches out to save us. Jesus’ healing love is poured out for ALL people and reveals great faith in unexpected places and people. Throughout a brisk two-three-day journey, Jesus barely has time to grieve John’s death, to pray, or to sleep. Yet he does not lose patience with the crowds, but rather responds with compassion, continuing to heal and to teach. How can we model the peace and mercy of Christ, especially at those times when it feels very inconvenient to us? The power of the Holy Spirit leads Peter, earlier chided for having little faith, to rightly confess Jesus is the Christ, the Son of the living God. Directly afterward, Jesus reveals the path of suffering, death, and resurrection ahead for Him as the Messiah. Thinking in human and not Spirit-led ways, Peter vehemently protests. Jesus rebukes him and goes on to instruct His followers, then and now, about the way of the cross - with the promise that in losing our lives for His sake, we find true life in Him.
