Gallery Walk

Every September, The Art Association of Harrisburg holds an annual gallery walk.  Zion is one of the many stops downtown.  Visitors can tour our building and look at the art on display.  In addition to exhibits by local artists for the event, a collection of stencil prints by Japanese artist Sadao Watanabe are part of the permanent collection.

Zion's 2024 Featured Artist: Diane Foster.
Captivated by the color and beauty of both the physical and imaginative aspects of life, Diane projects her view of the world onto canvas.

Artist Statement: I like it when art rushes out. I find that when I labor over a paiting it loses something. I prefer abstract art, lines, and colors. Emotions and texutres fill my canvas as I put a piece of myself into the art. Colors fill my dreams, odd shapes form in my head. Art fills my life. When I paint, I send a visual, tangible dream out for the world to see.
The pandemic brought a lot of changes to my world, everyone's world really, and I wanted to spread joy. I can see it in paint, layers and layers of paint, dripping and underneath my nail beds and splattered on my clothes, face, floor - all of it - gives me joy.  Utilizing materials others have thrown away such as repurposing old wood or using scrap meal from the dump allows these items to be repurposed.  Their renewal is comparable to what we have as a community have to do after the pandemic, we must start again.

A PRAYER FOR THOSE IN PRISON PRAYING FOR RELEASE
God of liberation,
Christ with the oppressed.
We pray for all those in our prisons, who are moving towards their release;
into a lower category prison,
into supported accommodation, and
into society.

For those whose release is imminent,
we pray for guidance,
as they navigate a new life and reconcile the old.
For those whose release is seemingly unattainable,
we pray for hope.
As monotonous days pass by,
May they see the possibility of change,
and be supported in their transformation.

Bless all those who support those released from prison. Who bring guidance, wisdom and care in such uncertain times.

May we too, be part of creating a society,
That helps foster restoration for all those released from our prisons.
Amen.
